Wall Washing
Uniform vertical illumination of a smooth wall — evenness first, texture never.
Wall washing uses fixtures with asymmetric optics placed 600–900 mm off the wall face. The distribution is engineered to throw as much light to the base as to the top, so the wall reads evenly from ceiling to floor.
The result is a uniform vertical field. Any texture on the wall is neutralised — this is intentional, and it is the wrong choice for stone or brick.
Spacing between wall washers should roughly equal the offset from the wall — this produces overlapping fields with no visible scallops.
