Method 01

Layered Lighting

Three intentional layers — ambient, accent, decorative — that together shape a room.

The ambient layer establishes the base illuminance and general navigation. It is the quietest layer — often indirect, always low-glare.

The accent layer sculpts specific objects, materials and surfaces. It runs at 3–5× the ambient level and creates the sense of hierarchy.

The decorative layer is the visible fixture: pendants, table lamps, wall sconces. It contributes little to lux and everything to atmosphere.

A room with only one layer feels institutional. A room with all three feels designed.
