Glare Control (UGR)
The measurable and perceived brightness of a fixture in the field of view.
UGR (Unified Glare Rating) is a computed value describing how disturbing a luminaire is in a given room. Lower is better. Offices target UGR ≤ 19; galleries and hospitality aim for UGR ≤ 16.
Glare is reduced by recessing the source, deepening the aperture, adding honeycomb louvres, and choosing fixtures with a low luminance at the exit plane.
The single most effective glare control is aiming: keep the direct source out of the primary sight lines.
