Colour Temperature
The perceived warmth or coolness of white light, measured on the Kelvin scale.
Lower Kelvin values (2200–2700 K) read warm and orange, like candlelight or halogen. Higher values (4000–6500 K) read cool and blue, like daylight or overcast sky.
In architectural interiors, 2700 K–3000 K is the default range: warm enough to feel domestic, cool enough to read materials truthfully. 2200 K is intimate, hospitality-grade. 4000 K reads as commercial or clinical.
Consistency matters more than choice — mixing colour temperatures within a single visual field looks like a mistake, even when intentional.
