Why this works
- 01A linear grazer 100–200 mm from the wall face casts light at a raking angle; every relief casts a micro-shadow, and the surface reads as sculpture rather than as colour.
- 02Warm 2700 K matches the natural pigment of most stone and avoids the cool cast that flattens material.
- 03The technique works from the ceiling downward or from the floor upward — direction is a design choice.
Common mistakes
- ×Wall-washing textured stone — kills the texture completely; the wall reads as flat colour.
- ×Mounting too far off the wall (>300 mm) — the raking angle softens and shadows disappear.
- ×Cool colour temperatures on warm stone — the material looks grey and cold.
