Case Study 06
Hospitality — Lobby & Bar
Mood-led illumination for a hotel lobby, restaurant, bar or lounge — atmosphere first, task second.
The design challenge
Build layered atmosphere: a warm base wash, sculpted accents on materials, and decorative pieces that punctuate — with no fixture visible unless it is intentional.

Why this works
- 01Three light layers (ambient, accent, decorative) at three different intensities create depth. A single layer reads flat.
- 02Warm colour temperatures (2400–2700 K) put guests at ease and match candlelight-era hospitality references.
- 03High-CRI sources on skin and materials avoid the sickly cast of poor-quality LEDs.
Common mistakes
- ×Uniform downlights across the ceiling — feels like an office.
- ×Over-lit bar tops — creates a mirror off the counter that reflects everything back at the guest.
- ×Mixing colour temperatures across layers — restless, uncomfortable.
Technical reference
Values are educational reference points, not specification. Every project requires site-specific analysis and product photometric data.
Luxitecture recommendation
Design the room in three layers before you specify any fixture: base, accent, decorative. Every surface a guest touches — bar, banquette, table — should be lit by an accent, never by the ambient layer alone.
